Well, it's almost over – the best time for fashion, I mean, aka the FALL. With the last of the trees turning golden and the fashion people switching their Crocs to UGGs (me included), we can officially say winter is coming. This November edition of the "Street Chic," even though I didn't personally go out and collect the fashion heroes, I would like to again provide useful styling tips and tricks for all of you, who want to know how to transition into the cooler season while still looking, well, CHIC.
Most of the people that the crew managed to snap were candid. But we did manage to get personal input from two of our fashion heroes, Erica and Sakura. So first, let's hear what they say before I input my two fashion euros (not cents, because again, fashion).
Erica, 38, Shandong, China, "Jewelry craftswoman and the dog, Dali"
Erica, 38, is originally from Shandong, China. Yet a traveled individual, spending over 20 years living in New Zealand and Hong Kong. "I am currently an entrepreneur and designer, running my own fashion brand that specializes in jewelry design… Shanghai is a very dynamic and fashionable city, full of opportunities and creativity," says Erica. A common choice for Chinese creatives, starting their fashion businesses, particularly in Shanghai.
Erica's outfit is full of personality and style, yet it also manages to keep her warm (not to mention matching lovely with her dog). "It featured three main colors: brown, black, and lake blue. My orange hair matched the brown skirt, while a clean black top helped balance the overall look and highlight the vibrant elements," mentions Erica.
A great color combination for the cooler months. If you want to refresh your everyday black and navy blue basics, switch to brown. Not only is it a trend, but also very flattering to most people. I would opt for darker, richer browns. And a great color to compliment it would be blue and black. "I want to highlight my top from the Japanese brand "The Reracs." I admire their "less is more" philosophy, which focuses on cutting and quality fabrics, etc," mentions Erica. If you are looking for great, classic pieces of great quality, but with a visual interest, Japanese are the brands to go.

Sakura, 23, Suzhou, China, "The Birthday girl"
Our second interviewee is Sakura, 23 years old. She is a fashion management student in Chengdu, and came to Shanghai to celebrate her birthday with her friends. Shanghai is known for its blend of old and new, reflected in the clothing people wear. "…that was my first time to try this kind of style. I've seen a lot of videos of clothes styles like this on TikTok. These attract me so much so that I bought it for my birthday party," Sakura said. She is right, wearing hanfu or, as Sakura wears, mamianqun, a traditional Chinese skirt.
The thing we can learn from Sakura is not to be afraid to experiment with your style. Especially, in a city like Shanghai, do not be afraid to try out new outfits, aesthetics or "cores." In addition, TikTok and Little Red Book are great sources of inspiration, even if you don't speak Chinese. If you want to get inspired by local fashionistas, here are some useful fashion hashtags and keywords in Chinese that you can use on Chinese social media:

Anonymous, "Winter Lace"
This lovely gentleman crossing the road gives us a lot of stylistic methods that we can adapt to our own wardrobe. First of all, black and white is a classic. If you don't know what to wear, a white top and black bottoms are always a safe yet stylish choice. When you go achromatic, do not forget that if you want to create a visually interesting look, mix and match textures. White on white can get boring, so by combining textures like leather and lace, you create depth in your outfit, as well as by layering, you can keep yourself not only stylish but also warm.
Second, if you are a guy or a girl, just because the temperature drops, skirts are still an option. Wear skirts on top of warm pants or jeans, layer them with tights or leggings, no one has to know what's going on down there. A lacy half skirt, like our guy is rocking, is a great little detail to add to your everyday, casual outfit. You can wear just one, or what I often like to do is layer two or more on top of one another. Try it out.
Anonymous, "Cute, pink and warm"
Pretty girls just can't get enough of tennis skirts and calve-length boots. A great, and trendy, color combination of grey and pink. Grey is just one of those colors that will look good on anyone and can be matched with pretty much any color. Matching your bag with socks and adding a cute little neck scarf is a great way to make your outfit more cohesive. However, because we are heading into colder months, I would suggest layering your off-shoulder sweater with, for example, a turtleneck in a matching color or perhaps just throwing on a warm coat in a complementary color. Moreover, don't be afraid to switch out your color socks to color stockings, 1960's style colorful tights have been seen on the most recent runways a couple of times.
Another great styling hack is the already mentioned neck scarf. You can wear a pretty scarf in a variety of ways. Tie them around your neck, like our girl did here. Wrap them around your head in "babushka style," very stylish and warm. Or use them as your belt accessory, has been a very popular style to slay in recently.
