Shanghai Culture Square has transformed its outdoor stage to a "tent theater," where the original musical "No Access" will be performed through May 21.
"No Access" is born from the Culture Square's 2020 original musical cultivation project. After three years of producing and polishing, it debuted in Hangzhou in neighboring Zhejiang Province last November.
During this round of Shanghai performances, the musical is sited in the Culture Square's new "tent theater," which is transformed from the venue's outdoor stage. A new X-shaped performing stage allows the audience to enjoy the show from multi-angles at close range.
The musical starts with a woman writer's suspenseful crime novel, and discussed social topics like Internet violence and the idol-making industry.
"What we want to say through the production is simple: everyone should express opinions properly and responsibly," said director Fan Chong.
"Irresponsible comments and opinions spread fast on the internet, leading to misunderstanding, trouble and even tragedy," he said. "We intend to trigger the audience's thinking about how to communicate with others and the world in the Internet era.
"The specially designed stage and arrangement of seats also echo the world of Internet."
The "tent theater" is equipped with 119 stage lights and high-quality hi-fi to assure an immersive experience.
