The 30-minute VR (virtual reality) project takes the audience to experience the sinking of the Titanic.
"Titanic — Echoes From the Past," an all-immersive virtual reality project based on the stories of the British ocean liner Titanic, opens to public at the Bund Finance Center on Friday.
Combining historical academic research, VR reconstruction, and digital interactive narrative, the 30-minute project takes the audience to experience the sinking of the Titanic.
In April 1912, Titanic, a large and luxury passenger liner, sank during its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York. More than 1,500 passengers and ship personnel lost their lives. The tragedy has also inspired many stories, theater productions and films, such as James Cameron's 1997 epic "Titanic."
During the exploration, the audience, wearing VR headsets, will follow the submersible to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean at a depth of 3,800 meters. They can closely observe the sinking site and wreckage of the sunken ship, and retrieve the lost images taken by William Harbeck, a pioneering American cinematographer who tragically lost his life aboard the Titanic.

People can attend dance parties on the Titanic.
People can also stroll on the deck and admire the sunset.
Through the footages, the audience will travel back to 1912, marveling at the Titanic's luxury and grandeur with fellow passengers. They can stroll on the deck and admire the sunset, attend parties, enter the engine room, and witness the moment of the iceberg collision in the cockpit.
The project is a joint effort of ECLIPSO and Small Creative from France. The Titanic's hull structure, crew stories, and historical events reappear with avant-garde technologies. Movie buffs and history enthusiasts are expected to appreciate the charm of the historical reenactment through this project.
