To celebrate the upcoming Year of the Snake, a Chinese zodiac art exhibition featuring 270 creative snake-themed artworks opened its doors to public on Friday at the Shanghai Library (East Branch).
The snake, one of the the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac, symbolizes intelligence and agility.
The "snakes" of the artworks are not scary, but cute and delightful. Visitors will be amazed at their creativity and humorous connotations.
The exhibition explores snake-related myths, legends, and history to expand many people's understanding of snakes, which had simply been classified as cold-blooded animals.
The art forms are not just limited to paintings, but also cover engraving, sculpture, animation, comics and digital art.
Most of the beautiful snake images at the exhibition are created in a freehand, geometric and anthropomorphic style.
Public and interactive works are also presented. For example, sofas with snake designs are set in the lobby. The square components with colorful artistic body parts of snakes can be pieced together by visitors to form snakes of different appearances.
